Givaudan has partnered with Manus Bio to launch a natural, clean-label citrus flavour ingredient to be used in a wide range of food and beverages.
BioNootkatone offers woody, citrus and “peely” notes. According to the companies, “BioNootkatone is the result of Givaudan’s analytical, flavour and processing expertise combined with the…application of Manus Bio’s BioAssemblyLineTM Cell Factory engineering platform”.
The new ingredient uses a non-GMO sugar source and is made without using any citrus ingredients. The company describes BioNootkatone as the “most cost-effective and sustainable natural nootkatone available on the market”.
Additionally, BioNootkatone is said to be less impactful for climate change than nootkatone derived from citrus due to it being a comparatively lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emission ingredient.
