The packaging of Glenfiddich’s 21-year-old Gran Reserva has undergone a revamp in order to reflect its experimental “Caribbean twist”.
The new design replaces its earlier purple hues for a fiery red, which is carried across the bottleneck and new square box. There is also a reduced reliance on labels on this new packaging – with a slightly larger seal, new bottle shape and additional on-bottle moulding – that allows the brand to more effectively showcase the colour of the whisky.
With a tagline of “raised in Scotland, roused by the Caribbean”, the Glenfiddich family gave malt master Brian Kinsman the freedom to add a finishing touch to Gran Reserva, which is described as “an exquisite, traditional Speyside whisky, rich and ripe with Glenfiddich signature notes”.
Kinsman finished the single malt in bourbon barrels seasoned with Glenfiddich’s own unique Caribbean rum, a secret recipe from three tropical islands that he knows will imbue the staves with the right flavours.
This Caribbean rum finish awakens this whisky, rousing it with extra-exotic notes of ginger, lime and banana and a “vibrant spicy warmth”.
Glenfiddich 21-year-old Gran Reserva has an ABV 40% and a recommended retail price of £115.
