Hamburg-based ingredient supplier GoodMills Innovation has launched a new wheat germ concentrate with added health benefits.
Rich in spermidine, the concentrate supports autophagy – the body’s self-cleaning process to remove damaged cells, in order to regenerate newer, healthier cells. The process is also linked to a healthy immune system, as well as decelerated ageing.
The ingredient’s nutrition profile includes folic acid, which plays an important role in immune defence; vitamin E, which has a cell-protecting function; and high-quality vegetable proteins and fats.
Spermidine occurs naturally in the human body and is produced within the cells as well as by bacteria in the intestinal microbiome. Several scientific studies have cited spermidine’s effect on autophagy.
GoodMills Innovation claims its SpermidinEvo provides six times the spermidine content of conventional wheat germs.
“The right nutrient source for intestinal bacteria is an important basis for the body’s own spermidine production. Dietary fibres contribute to healthy intestinal flora and thus support spermidine production from within,” said Michael Gusko, managing director of GoodMills Innovation GmbH.
“The combination of high-fibre ingredients and our spermidine-rich wheat germ concentrate makes it possible to boost cell recycling in two ways — from the inside out and from the outside in,” he continued.
The new ingredient can be integrated into existing recipes and products, including baked goods, bars, cookies and pasta, as well as liquid applications such as dairy drinks and shakes.
