With less than a month to go before the most romantic day of the year, Harrods has become one of the first food and drinks companies to announce its Valentine’s Day offerings.
The luxury retail outlet’s in-house chefs have created a range of individual sweet and savoury traiteur-style items. They include smoked salmon blinis and Harrods cheddar – both in the shape of a heart, of course – to begin, as well as a selection of petit fours for dessert. These include strawberry, green olive and milk chocolate vert galant; quince apple rose tortes; and poppy flower and white chocolate Sacré-Cœur for between £3.95 and £7.95 each.
But the store’s new raspberry, cherry blossom and tonka bean cheesecake hearts are the literal icing on the cake. Retailing at £4.95, they can be personalised with the name of a loved one piped on top.
The company says that the range was designed for those who want to stay in with a loved one on Valentine’s Day, and aims to marry convenience with unique flavours.
Bruce Langlands, director of food halls at Harrods, said: “Valentine’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, so we expect more people than ever to mark the occasion with their loved one. For those planning to enjoy an intimate meal at home, our romantic menu takes the hassle out of cooking and gives people more time to focus on enjoying the occasion. Our beautifully presented delicacies also make charming presents, combining traditional Valentine’s themes with unusual flavours.”
