FrieslandCampina and Holland-based Veris Investments have invested in dairy processing company Holland Dairy Ethiopia.
Based near Addis Ababa, Holland Dairy produces yogurt, pasteurised milk and other dairy products in its milk processing plant.
FrieslandCampina said the company already holds a strong presence in the Ethiopian dairy market, in particular in yogurt products.
By investing in supply chain, production and market development, Veris and FrieslandCampina said they aim to enhance and to extend Holland Dairy’s market presence.
FrieslandCampina currently exports UHT milk under the Dutch Lady brand and milk powder via its Coast brand to Ethiopia.
On its website, Veris Investment says: “Holland Dairy is a well-known brand recognised for its high-quality products, especially yogurt and milk. The company has an integrated milk supply chain and sources its milk locally. Its main suppliers are smallholder farmers.
“Holland Dairy aims to contribute to food security by helping to develop the Ethiopian dairy sector, a sector of crucial importance to rural and urban economic development.”
Last month FrieslandCampina announced a commitment to sustainable milk production with a focus on animals, nature and the climate.
The Dutch dairy company has proposed to its members the introduction of a top dairy line to produce dairy with a lower CO2 equivalent and a high score on animal welfare.
