Snack producer Vico has introduced Hula Hoops in a rigid paperboard container to the French market.
The French firm has teamed up with American packaging company Sonoco for the launch of the product, hoping the design will stand out at the point of sale.
Hula Hoops is the latest result of a cooperation between Sonoco and Vico’s parent company Intersnack. The ring-shaped snack, already popular in the UK, was launched in France last year in three flavours: original (salted), cheese and barbecue.
Vice president of Sonoco Consumer Products Europe Séan Cairns said: “The high visibility of our rigid paper containers is one of their key features. Having a packaging that stands out on the shelf is a crucial advantage, especially when it comes to introducing a new product to the market and attracting impulse buyers – which is of the utmost importance on the highly competitive snack market.”
The new aluminium-lined container has been designed to preserve Hula Hoops’ freshness. Vico has targeted on-the-go consumers, who will be able to retain the flavour of the product with the snap lid.
Vico aims to add bacon as well as sour cream and onion to its French Hula Hoops portfolio in the future.
South Carolina-based Sonoco provides packaging solutions at around 70 operations around Europe. The company turned over $1.17 billion in the first three months of the year – down from $1.23 billion in 2016.
