At Gulfood 2015, held in Dubai’s World Trade Centre from 8-12 February, Bill Bruce interviewed MTR Foods international business manager, Mithun Sachdeva, who discussed the brand’s innovative Badam (almond) Drink.
Mr Sachdeva explained that the beverage was inspired by an ancient recipe in India and contains real pieces of almond and saffron. Targeted at adult consumers who are looking for a healthier snack between meals, MTR’s Badam Drink was originally packaged in 250ml cans. Following consumer feedback, the company scaled down the size of its portions to position the drink away from the replacement meal category and push it more into the snack sector.
Based in Bangalore, MTR Foods manufactures a range of products, including frozen foods, soups, powders and drinks. Now a household name in India, the company’s roots trace back to 1924.
