A Japanese company has released a pack of individually wrapped chocolate slices – just like cheese singles.
The shelf-stable chocolate slices from Bourbon are 2mm thick and have gone on sale with a price of ¥3,000 ($26.65) for a pack of 60. Lasting for six months in the refrigerator, the slices are the perfect size to be melted onto a slice of bread, or can alternatively be used in a number of other ways for topping or baking.
Niigata-based Bourbon said that the chocolate slices offer a “deep, melting-in-the-mouth smooth ganache” meaning that consumers can “enjoy a full-bodied and rich chocolate sense”. It also recommends serving the slices as part of “cute handmade chocolate… sandwich crackers… [or] wrapped [up] with fruit and cream crepes for a fruit chocolate crepe.”
The product is thought to be completely new in its current format but will feel familiar to consumers in Scandinavia, where solid chocolate square slices for melting onto bread or into desserts have been available for a number of years. Called pålægschokolade, they have a crisper consistency than Bourbon’s chocolate singles and do not tend to be individually film-wrapped.
