Seara Alimentos – a subsidiary of Brazilian meat giant JBS – has developed a range of plant-based meat alternatives, and has opened a new innovation hub focused exclusively on the development of plant-based products.
Called the Linha Incrível Seara range, the company’s new product line will become available throughout Brazil in early 2020, and will feature five products including plant-based burgers, ‘oriental meat’, and breaded meat alternatives.
Seara claims that it is now the first major food company in Brazil to offer a full range of plant-based meat alternatives in the country, and says that the new range will help it to meet the demands of consumers across all market categories.
Joanita Karoleski, president of Seara Alimentos said: “The world is constantly changing. There currently is a new way for everything, and this is no different for foods. The search for vegetable proteins is a reality and we want to be leaders in this segment.”
All products in the Linha Incrível Seara range feature the company’s new Biomolecule i ingredient, which reportedly features a combination of molecules, natural elements and fermented ingredients which – when combined – help to replicate the taste and texture of meat products.
The Biomolecule i ingredient was developed at the company’s new innovation lab, which has been established to help Seara Alimentos anticipate and keep up with global food trends, while accelerating the company’s food transformation efforts.
According to Seara, the hub will combine the expertise of tech specialists, chefs, scientists and researchers to analyse consumer trends and create solutions which meet these demands.
Tannia Bruno, marketing, communication and research director from Seara Alimentos, said: “Technology is one way to have a conversation with consumers, and this new initiative has the purpose of continuously creating solutions at Seara and concepts for projects and new foods based on vegetable proteins.”
