Restaurant brand KFC has unveiled an edible coffee cup, which is made using biscuit, sugar paper and heat-resistant white chocolate.
The new creation, which has been dubbed the Scoff-ee cup, resembles the chain’s standard, non-edible cup and was invented by experimental food development brand The Robin Collective. KFC’s edible coffee cups are still under development, but plans are in place to trial the products at a number of UK stores later this year.
KFC brand manager Jocelyn Bynoe claimed that the company had “been experimenting with edible packaging to see if it could be a feasible product to bring to market in limited quantities” for some time.
The Robin Collective organises imaginative and engaging events, pop-ups and promotions, from idea generation through to production and management. The collective also collaborates with others and offers consultancy for ideas that are already in motion. Previous clients of the collective include Rekorderlig, Gordon’s Gin and Wrigley’s.
Co-founder Brandy Wright said: “Not only do the edible cups taste amazing, but they smell delicious too. We’ve infused different cups with a variety of ambient aromas including ‘coconut sun cream’, ‘freshly cut grass’ and ‘wild flowers’.
“These scents were used in our recipes as they have a natural ability to evoke the positive memories we associate with warm weather, sunshine and summer holidays – things that make everyone smile.”
