Kirsty’s has added a spicy Italian meatball option to its range of naturally free-from ready meals in the UK.
The new chilled dish is served in a rich tomato and pepper sauce with a “vegetti” medley consisting of carrots, butternut squash and courgette strips. The brand claimed that it was the first time that the innovative alternative to spaghetti had been used in a chilled ready meal.
The product has taken six months to develop and is set to launch in Waitrose stores from mid-September, followed by additional nationwide listings with Morrisons, Booths and Sainsbury’s.
Kirsty’s founder Kirsty Henshaw commented: “We are always looking at ways to keep the range fresh, innovative and popular with our customers. Spaghetti and meatballs is a tried-and-tested, classic dish and something that we have been looking to develop for a while. With vegetable spaghetti so popular at the moment, vegetti seemed like the ultimate accompaniment and we’re delighted to bring this new product to the market.”
Kirsty’s spicy Italian meatballs with vegetti will retail at £3 for 400g, and will form part of the brand’s seven-strong range of free-from ready meals. It will replace the classic beef lasagne product in order to ensure that the range remains fresh and innovative.
It is high in protein, low in carbohydrates and sugar, and an excellent source of fibre.
Each of the dishes in the Kirsty’s range is free from gluten, wheat and dairy and low in saturated fat – plus it contains at least one of the five recommended daily portions of fruit and vegetables. Every meal in the range – including the Malaysian butternut squash curry, Spanish chicken with rice, and cottage pie with sweet potato mash – also contains less than 400 calories.
