Minnesota-based Sustain, Land O’Lakes’ partnership between companies and farmers, has announced its acquisition of the software company Agren.
Sustain has been working alongside Agren since 2016 to provide conservation software for farmers to make conservation planning more efficient and to aid in soil and water management challenges.
Matt Carstens, senior vice president of Sustain, said: “This acquisition bolsters our goal at Land O’Lakes Sustain to be industry leaders in conservation stewardship and sustainability, helping ensure Land O’Lakes and the farmers we serve can lead the way on stewardship using the latest technology in our industry.
“By strategically designing conservation practices and visualising results using these innovative tools, retailers and farmers can maximise conservation benefits while keeping productive land in farming. It’s one more way Land O’Lakes is leading in the conservation arena.”
The agricultural tools will now be delivered through the SoilVantage tool suite, which Carstons said complement the existing capabilities which Land O’Lakes offers.
Land O’Lakes said: “The SoilVantage suite includes tools that help farmers understand and manage areas in their fields most susceptible to soil erosion.”
SoilVantage gives farmers a go-to option for managing crops.
Land O’Lakes continued: “The beauty of the SoilVantage tool is it doesn’t require a lot of time from the farmer. There’s no in-person field trials or analysis, SoilCalculator takes the farm’s crop management information and electronic field boundaries and runs scenarios for soil erosion and loss.”
