Black Medicine Iced Coffee has expanded its product line with the launch of a lavender latte iced coffee, alongside updated packaging.
The US brand said that lavender is increasingly being used as a culinary herb in food and beverages and its new product is said to be the first of its kind in the ready-to-drink coffee category.
Lavender latte is slightly sweetened with cane sugar, has 185mg of caffeine and joins the brand’s three other coffee flavours: iced latte, iced mocha and nitro coffee.
The package design features lavender’s signature purple colour and is tied to an overall redesign of the brand’s 9.5oz cans to improve on-shelf visibility and communication of product line flavours.
Brighter colours on Black Medicine’s iconic black aim to enable consumers to better identify flavours, and product names have been moved to the top of the cans.
Black Medicine founder and CEO Chris Cooper said: “We [are] more optimistic than ever about the Black Medicine’s opportunity to become a leading brand in the large and fast-growing RTD coffee category.
“We continue to innovate and invest in brand-building opportunities to leverage our investment in infrastructure and production capabilities to accelerate growth in core West Coast markets.”
In 2016, Black Medicine announced it exceeded its fundraising goal of $1 million on equity crowdfunding platform CircleUp. The brand now has distribution in approximately 1,000 conventional and natural or speciality grocery stores on the West Coast of the US.
