Mitch Higgingson said that the deal represented "an exciting opportunity".
Malton Foods Limited has completed the acquisition of the ambient pots, pouches and canned pudding business of Manchester-based Simpsons Ready Meals.
The purchase includes the sale of both the Goblin and Simpsons brands, in addition to the company’s manufacturing infrastructure and ongoing trade order book. Financial terms of the deal have not been publicly disclosed.
The Goblin brand includes a range of traditional savoury and sweet puddings in convenient plastic pots, sold through retailers Asda, Morrisons and Tesco. The Simpsons brand includes steamed dessert puddings in traditional cans.
Mitch Higgingson, CEO of Malton Foods owner Zwanenberg UK, said: “The purchase builds on Malton Foods’ current expertise in ambient grocery, where we already have a significant presence in ready meals, sides and sauces. It also adds ambient desserts and pastes to Malton’s product portfolio.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Malton Foods to open up new trading relationships and categories as well as opening the door for future innovation.”
Production will be moved to Malton Foods’ production facility in North Yorkshire next month, creating additional jobs at the site.
