According to Japanese dairy company Meiji Co, consumption of milk and other dairy products is effective in preventing .
Research has found that people who consume milk and dairy products daily have about a 40% lower chance of developing the disease.
The 17-year follow-up research project, led by Yutaka Kiyohara, a professor at Kyushu University, was launched in 1988. Meiji and Kiyohara began cooperating in 2008.
The research covered 1,081 residents of Hisayama, Fukuoka Prefecture. When the study began, none of the subjects, who were 60 or older, had Alzheimer’s disease.
Rises in blood sugar levels soon after eating are considered a key cause of the disease, and milk protein helps curb those rises, Meiji officials said.
