Milk Specialties Global has acquired the 96,000-square-foot Kay’s Processing facility in Minnesota, as well as the Kay’s Naturals high-protein and gluten-free snack brand.
The company plans to expand operations at the gluten-free-certified facility – which is located in Clara City – to meet demand for extruded protein products, and additional jobs are expected to be created.
The renamed Milk Specialties Global Clara City Facility is the nutritional ingredient manufacturer’s 11th plant.
The acquisition is said to be part of Milk Specialties Global’s long-term expansion strategy, which has also recently seen the company double its lactose production following an investment at its facility in Visalia, California.
“There is a lot of potential to ramp up production and increase capacity at our new Clara City facility, including more co-manufacturing,” said Milk Specialties Global vice president of extrusion technology and strategy, Jim Fischer.
“This acquisition will expand our extruded protein capabilities and help us better meet the needs of our customers.”
