Mondelēz International has exceeded “nearly all” of its environmental footprint targets for 2015, according to its Call For Wellbeing progress report.
The snack manufacturer found that it had reduced greenhouse gases from manufacturing by 19% per tonne, eliminated more than 100 million pounds of packaging from its product range, and cut net waste by 70% per tonne.
It has also achieved its goal of obtaining 25% of revenue from more of its healthier products and incorporated 25% more whole grains into its portfolio, helping consumers to make better decisions about the snacks they choose.
This is characterised by a 26% increase in the number of portion control products offered by the company – more than the objective it set itself for 2020.
Having met targets in nine out of 14 key metrics across sustainability and consumer wellbeing, excluding those where the company is on track to meet longer term goals, Mondelēz has now set more aggressive targets for the next four years as it focuses on fighting the impact of climate change.
The report further describes progress Mondelēz International has made toward its ambition to be the global leader in well-being snacks, the firm said.
Mondelēz International CEO and chairman Irene Rosenfeld said: “Our growth is directly linked to enhancing the wellbeing of our planet, the lives of the people who make and enjoy our products, and the communities we serve. In the years since we launched our Call For Wellbeing platform, we’ve made steady progress in delivering against our commitments. Our solid 2015 results, along with our new sustainability goals for 2020, advance our commitments and support our ambition to be the global leader in well-being snacks.”
Launched in 2013, the company’s Call For Wellbeing programme focuses on the areas of sustainability, wellbeing snacks, community partnerships and safety.
