Mondelēz International has appointed Glen Walter as the next president of its North American business.
Walter, who has been CEO of Coca-Cola Industries China since 2014, will be responsible for leading the company’s $7 billion business in the US and Canada including brands such as Oreo biscuits and Trident gum.
Mondelēz said, in his current role, Walter “led his team to accelerate revenue growth, improve productivity and expand routes to market”.
“Glen is an inspirational leader with an impressive track record of building brands and driving growth in North America and beyond,” said Mondelēz’s outgoing CEO, Irene Rosenfeld. “His deep operating experience in complex businesses, including a strong focus on sales excellence, make him a terrific leader for our North America region. I’m delighted to welcome Glen to the Mondelēz International family.”
“I’m thrilled to join Mondelēz International and begin working with the leadership team to grow the North American business on both the top and bottom lines,” Walter said. “I look forward to collaborating with my new colleagues to shape the future for our unparalleled portfolio of iconic brands.”
Tim Cofer has been interim head of Mondelēz North America since April.
Walter will replace Tim Cofer, previously president of Mondelēz’s European operation, who replaced Roberto Marques as president of Mondelēz North America on an interim basis in April.
Cofer will now concentrate full-time on his role as chief growth officer for Mondelēz, a post he has held since January.
Rosenfeld continued: “I’m thankful for Tim’s efforts in leading the North America business in addition to his critically important role as chief growth officer. In his brief time in the region, Tim has driven a new level of discipline across the business while generating strong plans for future growth and executional excellence.”
It is not clear if the changes are related to the appointment of Dirk van de Put – the current head of potato processor McCain Foods, who will take over from Rosenfeld as CEO of Mondelēz International next month.
