Packaging and paper group Mondi has rolled out a packaging solution for watermelon transportation and storage.
Called Watermelon’s Dream, the company claims that the cardboard carrying box offers a ‘unique alternative’ to standard solutions with its window showing the product.
The design is said to be easy to assemble and stack, saving transportation costs by allowing 50% more watermelons to be shipped per truck.
Mondi has already launched the product in Turkish supermarkets and has now made it available globally.
As well as convenience for the customer, the company said the packaging offers branding opportunities to boost on-shelf appearance.
Fatos Adak, product innovation manager at Mondi Corrugated Packaging Turkey, said the company focuses on four areas when designing packaging solutions: “Reducing damage in transit/storage, extending shelf and product life, adapting packaging design to evolving socio-demographics, and achieving packaging traceability for better inventory management.
“Each one of these elements is evident in the Watermelon’s Dream and we are very excited to bring this creative format to market.”
