UK alcohol importer Morgenrot has launched Argentine beer Quilmes in the UK, responding to growing consumer interest in South American cuisine.
The company said it is tapping into the growing trend for cans in the on and off trade, and the 335ml cans will be available from the end of September.
Set up in 1888 by German immigrant Otto Bemberg, Quilmes is brewed only in Argentina, made from the finest hops from Patagonia, barley malt grown in the Pampas and pure water from the Andes.
At 4.9% ABV, Morgenrot billed it as a classic lager with a golden colour, rich texture, light hoppy taste with a crisp finish.
Morgenrot commercial director John Critchley said: “Quilmes is an Argentinian icon, known and loved around the world so we’re thrilled to be able to extend our relationship with the brewery and launch this new format to the UK market.
“The development of cans, which a few years ago would never have been seen in pubs, bars and restaurants, has been one of the stand-out beer trends so we’re confident the new line will see strong interest.”
The cans will be available in cases of 24, costing approximately £24.70.
