Ingredients company Motif FoodWorks has announced it will locate its headquarters in Boston, US.
The 10,600-square-foot facility will feature a dedicated space for culinary research as well as innovation and application centres.
The move is expected to take place by June 2020.
“We have assembled a powerful team made up of food industry veterans, scientists with diverse backgrounds, and disruptive entrepreneurs,” said Jon McIntyre, CEO of Motif.
“With this team and our technology, we are poised to drastically improve the taste and nutrition of plant-based food and push the boundaries of what’s possible in the industry.
“We are expanding and cementing our presence in a space surrounded by food, science and technology innovators to ensure we can deliver on that mission.”
Motif launched earlier this year with $90 million in Series A financing to provide alternative proteins and other ingredients to food companies. Investors include Fonterra, Louis Dreyfus Company, Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Viking Global Investors.
Motif’s new headquarters will situate the company in the same centre as one of its investors and strategic partners, Ginkgo Bioworks.
According to Motif, its access to Ginkgo’s microbial fermentation platform puts it in a “leading position to discover, develop, and commercialise animal-free proteins”.
In August, Motif secured $27.5 million in additional funding and updated its brand identity. With the investment, Motif is aiming to accelerate its product pipeline of alternative proteins, expand academic collaborations, scale its science and regulatory staff, and deepen its research and development efforts.
