UK-based Fairtrade beverage manufacturer Natural Beverages has acquired the owner of ethical cola brand Ubuntu Cola.
Natural Beverages bought The Ubuntu-Trading Company in autumn 2015 – but details of the deal have only been publicly disclosed this week.
Natural Beverages has been distributing the drink since 2011, with listings in wholesale and foodservice as well as some Waitrose stores across the UK and Europe.
Ubuntu Cola was the first British cola brand to be certified Fairtrade in 2007.
Natural Beverages chairman Leonard van Geest said: “We’re very excited to have purchased this well-loved brand that already has an established fan base. It is an excellent addition to our product range, a great tasting beverage we’re keen to make price viable and competitive against the larger cola brands. If the choice is there, why wouldn’t you chose a more ethical cola? We’ve got some exciting plans for Ubuntu Cola, including brand extensions we’re hoping to announce in the forthcoming year.”
