Nestlé SA has opened a new quality assurance lab in Araras, Brazil, as the brand seeks to increase its organic product portfolio in the country.
Nestlé claims it invested BRL 23 million ($6.95 million) to construct the facility.
The facility will check the brand’s organic produce to ensure that it is free from pesticides and genetically-modified organisms.
Initially the facility will serve Nestlé’s markets in Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, and Argentina, but the brand claims the facility could go on to be its main quality assurance lab in Latin America.
Fabien Robert, Nestlé’s head of quality for the Americas said: “When you make a commitment to the consumer that it’s organic, it has to be organic. You have to make sure it’s pesticide free.”
