Nestlé is to invest more than UYU 600 million ($20.8 million) in a new production plant and distribution centre in Uruguay.
Located in the city of Canelones, the facility will be the company’s country headquarters in a bid to become more efficient by having all operations under one roof.
The site will also increase Nestlé Uruguay’s production capacity, with a focus on soluble coffee, powdered chocolate beverages, baking premixes and mashed potatoes.
The company claimed that more than half of the total investment in equipment will go towards green technologies.
Nestlé Uruguay country manager Andreas Dürig said: “Uruguay is an expanding market for Nestlé with many opportunities to develop. The investment that we are making with the relocation of our operations is one of the most important bets in the region in the last decade.
“It reinforces our commitment with the country, our employees and our consumers.”
During the course of the construction of the new site, more than 150 jobs will be created. The facility will be opened mid-2018.
