Nestlé Waters has invested THB 1.8 billion ($51.3 million) in a second manufacturing and distribution facility for its Pure Life brand of bottled water in Thailand.
The new factory in Surat Thani, in the south of the country, will be used to produce high-quality drinking water for consumers in 14 southern provinces, as well as nationwide across the whole of Thailand. The investment will create jobs for the local economy and help Nestlé Waters to meet its goal for sustainable growth in the region.
The plant features ‘advanced technology to improve environmental performance’, Nestlé said in a statement.
Nestlé Indochina chairwoman and CEO Audrey Liow said: “At Nestlé, we are committed to enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future for Thai people. For over 20 years, Nestlé Waters’ business operations in Thailand have produced high-quality drinking water that meets Nestlé’s global standards to satisfy Thai consumers’ demands for water they can trust for themselves and their families.”
According to Nestlé’s business executive officer for waters, Luca Chioda, the social and environmental track record of the company’s activities abroad are an important part of the way it does business.
Chioda said: “Nestlé gives importance to creating shared value to establish solid relationships with people in the community, focusing mainly on education about water resources and PET recycling. The Youth Water Guardian project, a collaboration between Nestlé Waters and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), educates school children and communities about water resource management, while our ‘I am doing it’ project teaches children to recycle plastic bottles.”
