Yowk has launched an innovative new packaging technology that claims to result in “a perfectly runny, pasteurised soft-boiled egg every time”.
Each Yowk egg is accompanied by an egg cup, breadstick soldiers, salt and pepper and a “spooth” – a spoon that incorporates a pointed edge to assist the consumer in “achieving the perfect shell crack”.
The patent-pending cooking technique used in Yowk’s manufacture provides added convenience to the consumer, and has allowed the product to be made portable for the first time in its development.
Manufacturer The New Egg Co. claimed that the product satisfied consumers’ demand for “time saving, healthy, ‘natural’ snacks and meals”. It also found that more than half of the 1,000 working professionals it surveyed thought that a runny egg and breadsticks would appeal to them as a convenient breakfast option, demonstrating a potential market for its product. Additionally, 95% of 100 respondents described the concept as either excellent or good.
A spokesperson for Yowk said: “For the consumer, preparation involves removing the egg from its pouch, placing it in the cup provided, topping up with boiling water and leaving for five minutes. A perfectly runny yolk is achieved in minimal time; Yowk [is] the ultimate convenience food innovation.”
