Norway-based start-up SteepShot has developed a minimalistic and portable coffee maker that aims to simplify the coffee brewing process.
The SteepShot has been created by coffee enthusiast and inventor Ari Halonen, who saw a need for a simple coffee maker with a short brewing time.
While many coffee machines are complex and often require power to function, SteepShot simply consists of a cup and a lid.
To create a brew, freshly ground coffee and hot water are inserted into the cup, before the lid is screwed on. Steam from the hot water expands the air inside, creating pressure which brews the coffee.
After a short wait, the SteepShot can be turned on its head and when the valve in the lid is opened freshly brewed coffee shoots through the filter.
Halonen got the idea of further developing SteepShot after his wife started making herself coffee every morning with a SteepShot prototype.
He said: “Our target market is anyone who drinks coffee, especially those who have used machines before since manual brewing has taken too long or been too complicated. SteepShot is a faster, simpler alternative.”
In early March, a Kickstarter campaign will be launched as the start-up aims to raise $40,000 to cover the last phase of product development and bring the device, which will be priced at $99, to the global market this summer.
