Fonterra’s global ingredients brand NZMP will launch a range of ingredients for its North American customers, including a unique medical ready-to-drink concept and a fast-digesting milk protein concentrate.
NZMP’s new 14% high-protein ready-to-drink medical beverage “has a unique combination of a heat stable whey protein and fast-absorbing milk protein concentrate.”
NZMP said their focus is to provide the drinks to patients and the elderly to make nutrition easier, more digestible, and increase the attractiveness of the beverages in comparison to previous dairy-based medical nutrition.
Camiel van Beek, head of sales at NZMP medical nutrition, said: “Medical nutrition is a fast-growing sector around the world as populations live longer with lifestyle-associated diseases, such as diabetes and heart disease. As people age they want to improve their own health, mobility and cognition and are looking for food and beverages that deliver this. Our American launch of a 14% high-protein RTD is thanks to NZMP’s long-term investment in research and development. As a result we have a range of science-backed solutions for our customers.”
A new milk protein concentrate, called SureProtein, is also included in NZMP’s new releases. NZMP say that this will “provide muscles with a higher level of amino acids within the first two hours of consumption compared to standard milk protein offerings.”
The new protein increases the rate at which the body absorbs nutrients, and according to NZMP this means athletes will have faster recovery times during exercise.
NZMP said: “The ingredient allows food and beverage manufacturers to formulate high-quality, ready-to-drink beverages, and it can also be included in dry powder mixes.”
The new launches will be showcased during the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT) Expo from 16-18 July 2018 in Chicago, where the uses of SureProtein will be demonstrated through a variety of protein-fortified foods.
