Canadian craft brewery Old Tomorrow are launching a new pale ale to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the birth of the country’s first prime minister.
Sir John A. McDonald was born in Glasgow, Scotland on 11 January 1815. On 11 January 2015, Old Tomorrow Canadian Pale Ale will be served in his honour in liquor control board franchises, bars and restaurants across Ontario, including in Toronto where McDonald first settled.
The beer itself combines old world and new world malts and hops, as well as Canadian rye, carefully crafted into a great-tasting beer with a feisty flavour off the top yet silky smoothness. Blended fruity notes are balanced with a subdued biscuity aroma, and its easy drinking flavour gives it broad appeal and makes it easy to pair with food or drink. The recipe was created by experienced Toronto-based brewer Jamie Mistry, who has previously crafted beers such as Big Wheel, Boneshaker and Bock.
Ian McDonald, co-founder of Old Tomorrow, said: “While there are a growing number of outstanding craft beer choices, there has been an absence of a distinctive yet smooth ale that Canadians can call their own. We designed Old Tomorrow CPA to fill this gap with a flavour-forward, full-bodied taste that is not too bitter, making it a memorable and unique brew that is very versatile for any occasion.”
