“The direct economic cost of food wastage of agricultural products (excluding fish and seafood), based on producer prices only, is about $750bn,” states its new report. That must mean more than US $1 trillion overall at retail prices.
The total is estimated at 1.3bn tonnes, which works out at half a kilo per person per day.
The report provides loads of examples how to waste less. Governments, industry and consumers can and must all help.
