Onken has launched a two-strong range of fresh porridge pots, available in the food-to-go aisle of UK supermarkets.
New Onken Porridge2Go is available in a 150g single serve format and will be priced at a recommended £1.25. The product offers a simple combination of oats and semi-skimmed milk and is available in two flavours: classic, and apple with crunchy apples pieces.
Acknowledging ‘growing consumer demand for healthy, feel-good breakfasts’, the Onken porridge has a creamy texture with the oats providing bite. It is slightly sweetened and offers a healthier alternative to existing instant ambient porridge variants, the brand said.
Laura Grove, head of marketing for brand owner Emmi UK, commented: “We’ve developed a convenient breakfast product that is low in sugar with slow release energy, without compromising on taste. Onken Porridge2Go is a first to the market, and the chilled food-to-go fixture, with the ingredients already mixed and ready to enjoy hot or cold. We’re always listening to consumer feedback, so we’ve created a product that taps into the trend for a healthy breakfast option for the food-to go shopper mission.”
The new Onken Porridge2Go will be available in Tesco stores across the UK.
2016 has been a busy year of product development for the brand with Onken Natural 1kg and Onken 0% fat wholegrain redcurrant and blackcurrant launching in June, and now Onken Porridge2Go in October. 2017 will see more innovation announcement, the brand promised.
It is hoped that the range of releases will contribute to growth in the £60 million brand, which is already recording ‘solid’ single-digit growth.
