Handmade food producer Patchwork Pâté has introduced a new collection of relishes under the label Mushroom Marmalade.
Available in original, hot jalapeño chilli and rich, oak-smoked varieties, it combines the taste of mushrooms, caramelised onions and shiitake. The company describes the flavour as “sweetly sublime”, with a “mushroomy umami aftertaste [that] lingers until you have some more”.
The relish will bolster the North Wales-based company’s existing product line, which includes pâtés, chutneys, hummus and soups alongside some sweet products such as ice cream and chocolate terrines.
Jenny Whitham, director of Patchwork Pâté, said: “After the huge award winning success of our vegan Red Pesto Pâté in the Great Taste Awards and the growing demand for our ambient range of pâtés and chutneys, it became clear that we needed something more than just chutney in a jar to appeal [to] our vegan and vegetarian customers. I had the idea that a mushroom delicacy would appeal to a wide audience of mushroom lovers and so Mushroom Marmalade was born!”
The company was founded in 1982 using the housekeeping funds of single mother Margaret Carter, and has now grown into purpose-built kitchens in Ruthin, Denbighshire that provide 30 jobs for the local economy.
