Belgian coffee roaster Pelican Rouge has launched a new retail range of coffees – available as whole beans, ground coffee and capsules.
The company has developed three core UTZ-certified blends to cater to a wide range of tastes. The mildest is Délice, a medium roasted blend made from 100% Arabica beans that delivers fruity and flowery notes in the cup, as well as a creamy mouthfeel and clean and crisp finish. Then there is the mid-strength Superbe blend, which combines Arabica and Robusta beans for a “strong and intense body” and creamy butterscotch flavour. The strongest of the three core products is the full-bodied Suprême blend, with its rich and aromatic blend of fine Arabica and Robusta beans, and creamy caramel and chocolate notes.
Pelican Rouge has also developed a line of Nespresso-compatible coffee capsules, which consists of two 100% Arabica capsules, one blend of Arabica and Robusta blends, and a decaffeinated 100% Arabica capsule to complete the range.
The capsules, Pelican Rouge said, are based on a a patented closed-system capsule design that delivers a shelf-life of 24 months with leading capsule barrier technology. The small and compact “cube box” that the capsules are packed in eliminates additional packaging and reduces both the product’s footprint and on-shelf appeal.
The line-up of new products is completed by a single-estate Arabica coffee from Nicaragua – handpicked, washed and sun-dried on the Santa Clara estate for a distinctive floral-scented sweetness that results in a bittersweet finish with a hint of dark chocolate.
The three core coffees are packed in 250g and 500g bags, and are all available as wholebean, roast and ground, and Nespresso-compatible capsules. The single-estate Nicaraguan coffee is available in 250g bags as both wholebean and roast and ground coffee.
Pelican Rouge international sales manager for the UK and Ireland, Steve May, said: “Our retail range offers fantastic price points for the consumer, attractive margins for the retailer – but above all, quality and taste to entice the consumer back for more. Backed up by a great-looking promotional calendar, these products will be sure to drive category sales.
“Our branding is certainly eye-catching, but our heritage and culture is really what drives us to deliver the best coffees around, throughout the UK, Europe and beyond.”
The coffees have launched in the UK this month, with listings already secured with Nisa along with select independents and wholesalers.
The wholebean and ground coffees have a recommended retail price of £3.29, the single-estate coffee £3.69, and the ten-count capsule packs £3.
