Pizza Hut has created a temporary tattoo in the UK with in-built QR code that, when scanned with a smartphone, allows users to almost instantly order a pizza.
The ‘groundbreaking’ concept, which has been months in development, promises to make it easier for consumers to get their favourite pizza delivered – or, alternatively, they can order and collect in person at their nearest Pizza Hut store. The fast food chain will initially make 40 available to the public as part of a marketing stunt.
The smart technology uses a combination of near field communication (NFC), QR and even the GPS module in the user’s phone.
How does it work?
Users simply peel off the back of the temporary tattoo, place it anywhere on the body, use a smartphone to scan the tattoo, and select between collection or delivery.
Pizza Hut said that the idea was inspired by the continuing popularity of both pizza and tattoos. Around 1.5 million tattoos are inked every year, in which time the UK will have spent almost £3 billion on pizza.
A Pizza Hut UK spokesperson said: “Both our restaurants and delivery businesses sell millions of pizzas every month and we’re always looking for innovative ways to get pizzas into people’s hands.
“With tattoos and technology being so culturally relevant, this concept brings together the best parts of pizzas and body art in a never seen before way!”
