Pizza Pilgrims has developed a new pizza kit that will allow consumers to make “authentic” Neapolitan pizza in a frying pan.
The make-at-home pizza kits have been developed by Pizza Pilgrims founders Thom and James Elliot, who have already established their London eatery as the go-to place for pizza lovers. They will extend the availability of the company’s signature pizzas by packaging up the finest quality ingredients for consumers to prepare at home, available online through Amazon Fresh.
Slice Design collaborated with Pizza Pilgrims to create the structural packaging and graphic design of the new kit to ensure it was convenient to deliver and easy for the consumer to use. Taking six basic ingredients, different structures were explored to package the contents securely, conveniently and cost-effectively to create a design that encapsulated the Pizza Pilgrim brand essence – convenience and authenticity rolled into one product.
The focus of the design is to show just how easy and quick it is to create something with great taste and appetite appeal alike, Slice said.
The kits have been made available in Napoli salami, Nduja sausage and margherita varieties. With enough ingredients to prepare two pizzas per 850g pack, the pizzas are prepared on the hob in under three minutes. The method, Pizza Pilgrims said, produces an authentic pizza that more closely replicates the intense heat found in traditional stone pizza ovens.
They retail for between £10 and £12.50, and were inspired by the brothers’ journey around Italy in a pizza oven van.
Talking of the design for the new packs, Slice Design senior designer Sarah Jones said: “Taking inspiration from the real hero of the pilgrimage, the pizza oven van, we utilised the corrugated texture and showcased Pizza Pilgrims as the original street food pizza company. We designed a carton wrap to secure the contents in place and provide a convenient solution for shipping – and the large canvas allowed us to have some fun with the instructional print on the inside!”
Pizza Pilgrims founder Thom and James Elliot added: “Slice were truly fantastic throughout our frying pan pizza kit project. They really understood what we were looking to achieve, presented a gamete of great solutions to the brief, pushed us where needed but without being forceful or overly stubborn and ultimately delivered a packaging solution that balanced creativity and functionality – exactly what we are looking for. They managed the whole process brilliantly – from creative, to sourcing suppliers and even helping find a great food photographer. All in all it was a great process!”
