Pizza vending machine company Basil Street has raised $10 million in funding, supporting the launch of its multi-city pilot programme in the US.
Basil Street’s machines sell 10-inch Italian-style pizzas to consumers which are cooked from frozen in about three minutes using a patent-pending three-element non-microwave speed oven.
The company claims that one of its main aims is to change consumer expectations around the sort of food they can expect to find in vending machines, and the company’s pilot programme is set to begin in April.
Basil Street has stated that target regions for the pilot programme include Texas, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina and Southern California, where Basil Street is headquartered. According to the company, businesses including corporate facilities, universities, and sporting venues have expressed an interest in the machines.
Deglin Kenealy, CEO of Basil Street, said: “After three years of perfecting the process to deliver unmatched brick-oven style gourmet pizza through the convenience of a stand-alone vending machine, we are excited about the next step to bring this unique proprietary concept, and more importantly great tasting pizza, to market.
“This round of funding enables us to kick-off our pilot program next month with the hopes of escalating into a full-scale launch of our kiosks by the end of Q3 in 2020. In a time of robotic solutions, this one is truly revolutionary.”
