Pladis UK & Ireland has unveiled a new range of cakes for Halloween 2020, releasing five new Halloween-themed products.
Of the five products, Pladis is launching three new products under its McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes and McVitie’s Digestives lines, as well as two additional products through its Halloween-exclusive McVitie’s Funny Bones range.
Through the Jaffa Cakes brand, Pladis is launching Zesty Orangey Cake Bars and Fruity Blackcurrant Cake Bars, which feature jaffa orange and blackcurrant-flavoured fillings respectively, encased in chocolate; while the orange flavour also features a purple-coloured sponge.
Meanwhile, the McVitie’s Digestives Cinder Toffee Flavour Slices consists of a layer of golden-baked biscuit with a cinder toffee flavour, topped with milk chocolate.
Finally, the Halloween-exclusive Funny Bones range features an eight-pack of chocolate cake bars and a sticky toffee-flavoured cake product.
All five products in this year’s ‘dead good’ selection feature colourful, sugar skull-themed packaging, and each multipack will have a suggested retail price of £1 per pack.
Claire Hooper, head of marketing – cake, at Pladis UK & Ireland, said: “Halloween presents a prime opportunity for retailers to stock novel, seasonal products, which encourage consumers to make impulse purchases.
“Given that cakes are a more impulsive buy than other sweet snacks, it’s undoubtedly an important category for retailers to focus on during the season.
“This year the seasonal sales opportunity for cakes is bigger than ever. Halloween celebrations are likely to take a different form, with many shoppers swapping parties and trick or treating for watching scary movies or hosting smaller gatherings at home.
“Cakes are perfectly suited to these at-home occasions, so this presents a unique opportunity for retailers to boost sales in the cake category – and give shoppers a festive reason to celebrate.”
