He recognised that economic power is shifting to countries such as India, China and Brazil, and that potential growth in the Middle East and Africa is still relatively untapped.
“Our industry’s sustainable growth and profitability will require innovation, collaboration and corporate responsibility,” said Jönsson. “Innovative solutions will be needed in production, processing, distribution and products. This will require individual company leadership, but perhaps even more important, collaboration among business partners with governments, science and representatives of consumers and civil society.”
He went on to say:
Collaboration is key to making this work. From the start, we’ve had deep relationships with our customers. It begins with identifying their product and packaging needs and continues to the development of our processing and packaging solutions. It’s about supporting them to maximise operational efficiency and safety. Today, we are taking collaboration even further. We are collaborating on key issues in industry associations such as the IDF and the Global Dairy Platform; with NGOs such as WWF and the UN Global Compact; and with local and national governments.
I met with Dennis Jönsson the day before he gave his speech and asked him about the Dairy Hub programme, Tetra Pak’s recycling goals and what his priorities are for the next year.
