In the US, Post Foods has launched a new rainbow sherbet-flavoured breakfast cereal under the brand name Ice Cream Pebbles.
The cereal consists of pink, orange and lime-coloured fruit-flavoured flakes with ten essential vitamins and minerals. Artificially and naturally sweetened, the flakes are also “an excellent source of vitamin D”, Post Foods said.
The ice cream cereal extends the company’s existing portfolio, which includes Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles, and has been released ahead of the key summer trading period. Pebbles was the daughter of the title family in the 1960s animated American television series The Flintstones. Ice Cream Pebbles’ box delivers visual cues to the programme, including a similar typeface and a likeness of Bamm-Bamm, who was also a character in The Flintstones.
Post Foods senior brand manager Sue Fruzzetti-Reich said: “While Fruity and Cocoa Pebbles are iconic cereals, we’re always looking to innovate and bring new and different flavours to tempt the taste buds of our fans. A scoop of sherbet ice cream is a sweet summertime tradition. We wanted to bring that experience to the cereal bowl. As soon as you open a box of Ice Cream Pebbles, the sweet smell and flavours of rainbow sherbet really come to life. Whether eaten straight from the box, poured in a bowl with milk, or used in family favourite recipes, the new cereal’s refreshing, sweet sherbet taste make it the perfect treat!”
