Primo Water Corporation has announced that its Primo Water North America subsidiary has achieved carbon neutrality across its US operations, certified as a carbon-neutral company under The CarbonNeutral Protocol.
The CarbonNeutral Protocol is an international standard administered by Natural Capital Partners, and Primo Water North America’s carbon neutral status was verified by SCS Global Services, a third-party environmental and sustainability verification specialist.
Primo Water North America is a provider of water dispensers, purified bottled water, and self-service refill drinking water to customers across North America. According to a statement, Primo Water North America achieved carbon neutrality for its US operations after establishing its greenhouse gas inventory for Scopes 1, 2, and select Scope 3 categories, and purchasing and retiring carbon offsets through Natural Capital Partners.
This new certification is in addition to the certifications achieved by the company’s European operations, which have maintained carbon neutrality for the past eight years.
Tom Harrington, Primo’s chief executive officer, said: “Achieving carbon neutrality in our US operations is a critical step toward improving our standing as a sustainability leader and ensuring that we are upholding our commitment to being a steward of the planet’s natural resources.
“Over the past several years, we have shifted new route truck purchasing from diesel to propane-powered vehicles to reduce carbon emissions and optimised mileage by implementing route planning technologies.
“We have also improved efficiency at our production facilities to lower our energy usage per finished product. Looking ahead, we will continue to search for sustainable ways to improve the livelihoods of our customers, our associates and the communities we serve.”
Formerly known as Cott Corporation, Primo Water Corporation was established as Cott’s new corporate name following its acquisition of Primo Water in a deal ‘valued at $775m’.
In August, Primo Water North America announced that it had acquired the operations of bottled water firm Mountain Glacier for an undisclosed sum; growing Primo’s customer base in states such as Indiana, Tennessee and Texas.
