Propercorn has added a chocolate-flavoured popcorn to its snack range to jointly-respond to the increasing demand for chocolate-flavoured and healthy snacks in the UK.
Figures provided by Propercorn claim that 94% of 25-35-year-olds in the country snack on chocolate at least once a week, and the company claims that new snack will offer a healthy alternative to chocolate bars as it contains “roughly half the calories of a traditional chocolate bar”.
Flavoured with Fairtrade Peruvian cocoa, whole milk, Demerara sugar and sea salt, the popcorn contains 126 calories per serving, and will be available in single-serve and sharing bags.
Propercorn co-founder, Cassandra Stavrou said: “The universal love of chocolate makes this one of our most exciting launches yet.
“Popcorn continues to be the fastest growing category within crisps, snacks and nuts, and combining it with best-loved flavours like chocolate, will ensure that we continue to introduce more people to it as an everyday snack.
“After months of tasting and tweaking, we’re very proud to have created a healthier, Fairtrade product and one which genuinely satisfies the sweet-toothed among us.”
Propercorn Chocolate popcorn will be available in Waitrose and Ocado from May 2018, and Tesco from July.
Single-serve bags will have a suggested retail price of £0.80, while sharing bags will retail for £1.59.
