Puratos UK has expanded its Satin cake mix portfolio with two variants that contain 20% less sugar than the standard Satin mix.
Satin 20 will make it easier for bakers to reduce the amount of sugar in recipes and to meet Public Health England sugar reduction targets, the ingredients supplier said.
The company cited Mintel research that revealed 44% of UK cake consumers would be interested in a low-sugar option.
Available in both plain and chocolate variants, Satin 20 can be used to create bakery products such as muffins, loaves, pancakes and cakes.
The mix contains only natural flavours is said to be quick and convenient to prepare, requiring the addition of egg, oil and water. It is available direct from Puratos UK in 12.5kg bags.
“Our new Satin 20 cake mix contains 20% less sugar than the standard Satin range, in line with PHE guidelines to help consumers reduce their sugar intake,” said Philippa Knight, senior product manager, Puratos UK.
“Taste is always king for Puratos so we have managed to develop this new variant without any compromise on flavour or consistency. The new product complements our existing Satin range, which has been a firm favourite for 25 years.”
The launch follows the release in December of a Vegan Granola Bake Mix and Satin Vegan Complete Plain Cake Mix, as Puratos responds to consumer demands for plant-based products.
