PureCircle will launch stevia leaf-based cocoa and vanilla flavour enhancers which can be labelled as natural flavours.
The company hopes the breakthrough will allow it to enhance sweetness quality and different tonalities across a range of food and drink products.
Consumer demand for natural cocoa and vanilla ingredients has shown continued growth in recent years. According to PureCircle, its new product range will enable developers to reduce the amount of cocoa and vanilla alongside sugar, without compromising taste.
PureCircle head of marketing and innovation Faith Son said: “We are excited to have an opportunity to meet new needs of our customers by introducing these flavour enhancers that specifically address cocoa and vanilla.
“We strive to uncover new properties within the stevia leaf, and this breakthrough enables us to service new markets and customers in a meaningful way.
“PureCircle is committed to maximising the full potential extracted from each leaf, and we believe our ability to reduce sugar and enhance key flavour tonalities naturally will be a winning combination.”
The launch is the latest in a series of innovative developments by PureCircle which has been granted more stevia-related patents than any other company in the last year.
Last month it launched a variety which is 20 times more concentrated than regular stevia as well as a new stevia antioxidant.
Founded in 2002, the company currently has 72 stevia-related approved patents and 200 pending.
