It is the latest international venture for the Glasgow-based company, a developer of test solutions for food and feed analysis, manufacturing test kits that offer high precision and accuracy.
R-Biopharm Rhône already has sister companies in the US, Italy, France, Spain, Australia, Argentina, Brazil and China.
The creation of the new Indian company follows the acquisition of one of R-Biopharm Rhône’s distributors in the subcontinent.
Product manager Claire Milligan, who is overseeing the Indian integration, said: “Our products test for mycotoxins, which are found in a huge variety of food and which can have a devastating impact on the human body. In Asia, a big area of interest for mycotoxin testing is in the spice industry, particularly for aflatoxin and ochratoxin. Aflatoxin, one of the most potent toxins, causes liver cancer. Ochratoxin, found in cereals, dried fruit, coffee, wine and spices, causes kidney cancer.”
R-Biopharm Rhône has a number of suitable test kits available for testing spices, so the aim is to work with R-Biopharm India and distributors from the subcontinent in order to increase business. Other opportunities are being explored in Malaysia, Indonesia, China and elsewhere.
