US speciality ingredients supplier Ribus has joined forces with Innovative Proteins USA to acquire a manufacturing facility in Galesburg, Illinois.
The groups purchased the manufacturing site from J. Rettenmaier USA, a processor of functional organic fibres made from renewable, plant-based raw materials, for an undisclosed sum.
Following renovation, the new plant will operate as Innovative Production USA and will be used to manufacture ingredients for both the food and dietary supplement industries.
Founded in 1992, Ribus supplies natural and organic rice-based ingredients for the food, beverage, pet and dietary supplement sectors around the world.
“This new location allows us to better align our production schedules with customers’ demands in a growing market,” said Steve Peirce, president of Ribus.
He added: “Through strategic initiatives like this we can remain a leading clean label ingredient provider and continue to offer outstanding customer service for our current and future customers.”
Meanwhile, Innovative Proteins USA is focused on manufacturing plant-based ingredients for the food and beverage industry.
The South Dakota-based firm’s products are sold directly to consumer-packaged goods manufacturers, as well as distributed through a national network of business to business relationships.
“We are delighted to join forces with a like-minded company who has a focus on growing and emerging trends that are here to stay. Both parties plan to fully leverage all capabilities, knowledge and expertise from one another throughout the process,” added Peirce.
Ribus aims to begin production at the new facility soon, with plans to hire between 25 and 45 staff within the first 24 months of operation.
