Tilda has unveiled a limited-edition Peri Peri ready-to-heat rice after it won a competition in which consumers voted to choose the next flavour.
Peri Peri was chosen by customers following the success of a Caribbean rice and peas variant, which launched in 2017 and now joins the permanent range.
Available in UK supermarkets from the end of March, the steamed basmati rice combines pure rice with red and green peppers, chili, garlic, onion, oregano and lemon juice. It retails for £1.59 per 250g pouch.
Tilda said that its latest launch taps into the ongoing trend for spicy flavours of varying heat levels.
Tilda head of innovation Camilla Sheeley said: “Rice is known for being one of the most universal and versatile foods and the texture of Tilda basmati allows the grain to absorb other flavours, making it a sociable partner to a whole host of recipes. The possibilities are endless, and Peri Peri was up against suggestions from every continent.
“Our customers and panel unanimously decided on Peri Peri – the bold flavour we’ve come to know and love through casual dining. This versatile, savoury recipe rice is packed with flavour, heat and no artificial ingredients for consumers to enjoy within the convenience of their own homes.”
The 20-strong Tilda steamed basmati range allows consumers to explore global cuisines, made with natural ingredients. The range is gluten free, and vegetarian friendly.
