The Safe + Fair Food Company has launched a line of vegan and gluten-free baking mixes that are free from the top eight allergens.
Available in three variants – double chocolate brownie, red velvet brownie and birthday cake blondie – the Top 8 Free Mixes are made with dairy- and soy-free chocolate chips, natural colour sprinkles, ancient grains and a blend of five gluten-free flours.
Safe + Fair said the range will mean families with food allergies will no longer have to forgo convenience by starting from scratch to get a safe baked treat.
“Finding a delicious baked good mix for a birthday party, bake sale or sweet tooth craving that is safe for all can seem impossible,” said Will Holsworth, The Safe + Fair Food Company CEO.
“Creating your own recipe requires a long list of ingredients and steps, and many of the current top eight-free mixes are grainy, dry and fall apart easily. We created these mixes not only to satisfy both food allergy sufferers and sweet-lovers alike, but to bring convenient and versatile products to families across the country.”
The new baking mixes are now available in the US in 20.6oz bags for $4.99.
The Safe + Fair Food Company was founded by friends Dave Leyrer and Pete Najarian, who found themselves frustrated by the lack of safe foods for their children, who both had nut allergies.
In January, it launched a line of pea protein chips which are free from five of the top eight allergens. Made with lentil flour and pea protein, the gluten-free range is available in three flavours: hickory BBQ, sea salt and sweet jalapeño. A range of popcorn quinoa chips was released last September.
According to Safe + Fair, more than 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies, with eight food categories accounting for 90% of all allergic reactions: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat, soy, fish and shellfish.
