Did you know that there’s a drink designed specifically for smokers? I didn’t either. SIAL quickly taught me otherwise though.
Developed by South Korea-based Chunho Food, the beverage in question features ‘balloon flower roots’ and comes packaged in 80ml pouch packs. According to the brand, the creation is a ‘recommended product for smokers and chronic bronchitis patients’ due to its ‘efficacy for stopping cough and other bronchitis symptoms’.
Chunho Food also produces a variety of other innovative drinks. The company offers a stamina-increasing beverage, which includes cornus fruit juice, a black garlic juice, which supposedly aids fatigue recovery, and a beta carotine drink, which is designed to protect children’s vision.
Another noteworthy product was Punku Quinoa Foods’ Orange & Mango Royal Quinoa Cookies. The Bolivian brand’s new creation was recently launched in the UK and offers 99 calories, 0mg cholesterol, 1.3g of protein and 2.7g of sugar per 100g serving. Quinoa is trending all across the food and beverage industries right now, so the this latest product extension makes a lot of sense. New Cranberry flavour cookies are also scheduled for release later this year. These cookies will contain 97 calories, 2.5g of sugar and 1.2g of protein.
London-based For Goodness Shakes was exhibiting two new product extensions at SIAL 2014 too. The brand was showcasing its new-for-2015 Ultimate Protein line, which is available in Dark Choc and Strawberry flavours and offers a massive 40g of protein per 475ml portion, and its new-for-2015 MilkShoot for kids range, which is designed specifically for children and features added milk protein and vitamins D and B.
Protein has been a popular ingredient in the sports drink/fitness shake category for a long time now and fans of these types of beverages will undoubtedly appreciate the enormous protein boost one of these creations offers. For Godness Shakes’ move into the kids drink sector isn’t very surprising, with a number of other companies releasing similar lines all throughout 2014. The healthy kids drink product category is certainly a sector to watch out for in 2015.
It’s only my first day at SIAL, but so far the exhibition has been exciting, fast paced, and packed with innovative food and drink. I hope tomorrow offers more of the same!
