French savoury ingredients producer, Solina Group, has completed the acquisition of Bowman Ingredients, a supplier of coating systems such as batter and breadcrumbs.
Solina purchased the UK company from the Bowman Family shareholders for an undisclosed amount and the acquisition forms part of its expansion strategy.
Establishment in 1992, Bowman Ingredients specialises in the production of coating systems for customers in the global food processing industry.
The company supplies its products – such as breadcrumbs, batters and marinades – to major fish, meat and vegetable processors to develop value-added products for retail and foodservice markets.
The deal also includes Bowman’s four manufacturing sites in the UK including a dedicated gluten-free and allergen-controlled manufacturing plant, as well as a plant in Poland that it opened this year as part of a wider expansion into mainland Europe.
These plants will join Solina’s 23 production facilities and multiple R&D centres. The European producer of savoury ingredients solutions has direct presence in 18 countries and serves customers in more than 75 countries.
Solina’s latest deal comes after it made two acquisitions earlier this year, including Canadian foodservice brand Berthelet, and Hagesüd, a German producer of spice blends, seasoning and marinades for the butchery industry.
“Beyond being a strong cultural fit, Bowman Ingredients is well established in the convenience food and food service QSR’s (Quick Service Restaurants) which represent a strategic pillar for Solina’s future growth,” said Anthony Francheterre, CEO of Solina.
He added: “Working in partnership, Solina and Bowman are complementary, both in terms of product portfolio and customer base.”
According to the press release, Bowman generates revenues of £60m and has 220 employees across the UK and Poland.
Rory Bowman, founder, shareholder and CEO, said: “Our management team will remain in place, and I am excited to be working with Solina to continue to lead Bowman Ingredients at such an exciting phase of our growth. We look forward to exposure to Solina’s new technologies and enhanced geographical reach.”
