Malt loaf maker Soreen has extended its portfolio into the sharing format with the launch of new bitesize ‘squidgy cake bites’.
A new addition to the cake aisle, the cake bites will be available in a resealable tub of 12 and sold in two flavours: chocolate and toffee. Their launch follows the success of Soreen’s squidgy cake minis.
The cake bars, which offer 60% less fat and 50% less sugar than standard cake products, was launched to cater to the demand for shared and permissible snacks with sales of cake bites rocketing by 70% between 2013 and 2015, Soreen said.
The new cake bites contain 151kcal per serving and are low in fat, allowing the brand to appeal to this segment of the market.
Soreen marketing director Bethan Brown said: “The demand for shareable snacks is growing and is an important sector of the category.
“Given the success of our cake bar formats, we felt it was right to launch squidgy cake in a shareable format to meet the demand for healthier treats that don’t compromise on taste.
“They are a great addition to our cake range and help to show that Soreen can be enjoyed in many formats and occasions.”
Available in Asda, Tesco and Ocado from September, the new product has a recommended retail price of £2 per tub.
